A mechanical and industrial draughting role in Randburg for someone with at least 5 years of experience. About the role
Our client, based in Johannesburg North, needs an experienced Draughtsman with a mechanical and industrial background to join their team. You will be part of a project environment where your drawings and models help bring engineering designs to life.
What the day to day looks like:
- Work closely with design engineers, project managers, project engineers, suppliers, and consultants to produce drawings and layouts on time
- Become proficient in the company's 3D CAD program Solid Edge within your first month
- Create 3D models of layouts, assemblies, and parts using the company's preferred design methods
- Produce PFD and P&ID drawings in Solid Edge when required
- Visit customer sites to measure plant and equipment, and hand draw site sketches for scanning and saving
- Advise 3D scan personnel on the required views
- Produce layout and fabrication or machining drafts following preferred drafting practices
- Meet with customers, the sales team, suppliers, and fabricators to present layouts and discuss scope details and specifications
- Generate as-built drawings and make sure drawings are updated accordingly
- Take part in HAZOP meetings and project closeout, and document lessons learned related to drawings
- Plan your workload with project managers and engineers to meet drawing schedules
- Liaise with the structural engineer and other professionals for input needed for drawings
Please note: This position is open to non-EE/AA candidates. You must have a valid driver's licence and your own reliable transport, and you must live in the JHB North or Randburg area or be willing to relocate closer.
Requirements
- Matric (Grade 12)
- A recognised Mechanical Draughting qualification
- Minimum of 5 years experience as a Draughtsman
- Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport
- Must reside in the JHB North or Randburg area, or be willing to relocate closer
- Willing and able to learn Solid Edge within one month of starting
Responsibilities
- Liaise with design engineers, project managers, project engineers, suppliers, and professional consultants to ensure timely drawings and layouts
- Become proficient in Solid Edge within one month and use the company's preferred CAD design methods
- Produce PFD and P&ID drawings in Solid Edge when required
- Visit customer sites to measure plant and equipment, and hand draw site sketches for scanning and saving to the server
- Advise 3D scan personnel on required views
- Create 3D models of layouts, assemblies, and parts using preferred methods
- Produce layout and fabrication or machining drafts using preferred drafting practices
- Meet with customers and the sales team to present layouts
- Meet with suppliers and fabricators to discuss scope details and specifications
- Generate as-built drawings and keep drawings updated for as-built purposes
- Participate in HAZOP meetings and project closeout, documenting lessons learned related to drawings
