About the role
As Depot Manager, you will be at the heart of the depot's daily operations, making sure everything runs smoothly, safely, and on time. You will lead and support your team, allocate resources like vehicles and equipment, and solve problems as they arise to keep disruptions to a minimum.
You will also build strong relationships with clients, visit them regularly, and provide detailed reports to senior management. Keeping the fleet and depot in top condition and ensuring quick turnaround times for trucks will be key parts of your role. - National Matric Certificate (Grade 12) is essential
- A B. Degree in Business Management or Logistics Management is advantageous
- 5 to 10 years of logistics management experience, including specific experience in depot management
- Excellent staff management and leadership abilities
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to delegate effectively and meet strict deadlines
- High attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high quality standards
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize workload effectively
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Proficient in computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and logistics software
- Analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to make decisions under pressure
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and be self sufficient
- Bilingual (English and Afrikaans) is preferred
Responsibilities
- Provide effective leadership in managing the daily operations of the depot, ensuring all transportation activities are executed efficiently, safely, and in line with company policies
- Manage and optimize the allocation of resources, including personnel, vehicles, and equipment, to meet operational demands and ensure cost effective and efficient operations
- Address operational challenges promptly, ensuring smooth workflow and timely issue resolution to minimize disruptions and maintain efficient depot operations
- Provide accurate feedback and detailed reports (daily, weekly, and monthly) regarding depot operations, addressing any issues as required by the Director or senior management
- Identify and implement continuous process improvements and operational efficiencies to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and improve overall performance
- Visit clients regularly and build long lasting, positive relationships with existing and new customers, as well as other relevant stakeholders
- Uphold the highest standards of care regarding the upkeep and image of both the fleet and the Johannesburg depot
- Ensure that trucks experience a quick and efficient turnaround time within the depot, minimizing delays and ensuring smooth operations for the business
