About the role
As a Data Engineer in the Business Transformation team, you will report to the Enterprise Architect and play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining reliable data infrastructure and integrations for an FMCG business. Your work will directly support retail, logistics, finance, merchandising, and supply chain operations.
You can expect to work on scalable ETL/ELT pipelines, integrate data from various systems such as ERP, warehouse management, and CRM, and build analysis-ready datasets for business intelligence. You will also develop Python-based solutions, optimise SQL queries, implement data quality controls, and support system implementations through data migration and testing. Collaboration with architecture, IT, analytics, and business stakeholders is key to translating requirements into practical data solutions.

Requirements
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Approximately 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in data engineering, database development, systems integration, or a similar technical role.
- At least 2 years of experience in systems or data integration, including data exchange between internal and external systems.
- FMCG industry experience is essential.
- Proven experience developing data solutions using Python.
- Advanced SQL skills and strong practical experience with relational databases, particularly Microsoft SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL.
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines.
- Strong understanding of data modelling, data warehousing, and BI/analytics environments.
- Experience designing, building, or consuming REST APIs, including JSON, authentication, pagination, error handling, and retries.
- Experience with SFTP, scheduled file transfers, and structured file formats including CSV, JSON, and XML.
- Experience with source control, automated deployment, and production integration monitoring.
- Understanding of data contracts, schema versioning, metadata, master data management, and data quality.
- Knowledge of secure credential management and appropriate access controls.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder collaboration skills.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines across multiple business systems.
- Integrate data from ERP, warehouse management, transport management, finance, CRM, and other operational applications.
- Develop Python-based data solutions and optimise SQL queries and processing routines.
- Build and maintain analysis-ready datasets and data models for business intelligence and analytics.
- Implement automated data validation, reconciliation, and quality controls.
- Monitor production pipelines, investigate failures, and resolve integration and performance issues.
- Develop and support REST API, SFTP, file-based, and batch integrations.
- Support system implementations through data migration, cleansing, mapping, testing, and validation.
- Apply data governance, information security, and access-control standards.
- Maintain technical documentation, integration specifications, data dictionaries, and change records.
- Use Git and deployment practices to promote solutions across development, test, and production environments.
- Support AI-enabled data solutions and use AI-assisted engineering tools within approved governance controls.
- Collaborate with architecture, IT, analytics, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into practical data solutions.
