Overview

Capitec is looking for a Data Analyst II to join their client engagement analytics team in Stellenbosch. This consultative role goes beyond building reports. You will dig into client journeys, identify untapped audiences, and guide stakeholders with insights that shape how the bank engages its clients. If you have 5 to 8 years of data analysis experience, strong SQL and Power BI skills, and enjoy mentoring others in a collaborative pod structure, this is a great opportunity to make a real business impact.

About the role

Join Capitec as a Data Analyst II in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. You will be embedded in a pod within the Data & Analytics team, working closely with business stakeholders to turn client engagement data into insights that drive better decisions and behaviour change.

What you will do:

  • Understand your allocated business domain by attending relevant meetings and forums, learning the available data assets, and surfacing insights that improve client journeys and identify untapped audiences.
  • Act as a trusted analytical partner, working with and guiding cross-functional teams in marketing, finance, and IT to understand business needs and deliver data-driven insights.
  • Challenge and refine stakeholder questions rather than simply accepting requests as given.
  • Lead data analysis projects and drive business impact through insights, using advanced tools including SQL, Python, R, Tableau, and Power BI, and performing complex data analysis and statistical modelling.
  • Communicate and present findings and recommendations clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Apply an understanding of financial products, services, industry trends, regulations, and compliance requirements to financial data analysis.
  • Contribute to a culture of learning, mentoring, and knowledge sharing within the team.

Application note: You'll apply on Capitec's official site. Clear criminal and credit record required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an analytics, STEM, or related field.
  • At least 5 to 8 years of experience in data analysis, ideally in financial services or banking.
  • Significant experience in financial services or banking data analysis.
  • Experience leading data analysis projects and driving business impact through insights.
  • Advanced data analysis tools: SQL, Python, R, Tableau, or Power BI.
  • Experience with complex data analysis and statistical modelling.
  • Experience working with and guiding cross-functional teams.
  • Experience communicating and presenting findings to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Understanding of financial products, industry trends, regulations, and compliance.
  • Strong business acumen: understanding what a result means for the business, not just the data.
  • Ability to manage deadlines and competing stakeholder requests, knowing when to push back.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a growth and experimental mindset.
  • Advanced SQL: complex query writing, performance optimisation, large dataset management.
  • Advanced Excel, including macros and VBA.
  • Advanced visualisations and dashboards: Power BI, Tableau, or similar.
  • Python or R: data manipulation libraries (pandas, numpy) and visualisation libraries (matplotlib, seaborn).
  • Strong understanding of statistical methods and their application in financial data analysis.
  • Predictive analytics techniques and data modelling techniques.
  • Risk analysis methods and their application in financial services.
  • Clear criminal and credit record.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the allocated business domain by participating in relevant meetings and forums, learning the data assets available, and surfacing insights that improve journeys and identify untapped audiences.
  • Act as a trusted analytical partner, working with and guiding cross-functional teams, including marketing, finance, and IT, to understand business needs and deliver data-driven insights.
  • Challenge and refine stakeholder questions rather than simply accepting requests as given.
  • Lead data analysis projects and drive business impact through insights using advanced tools including SQL, Python, R, Tableau, and Power BI, and perform complex data analysis and statistical modelling.

Success Guide

This is a fantastic opportunity to join Capitec's data team in Stellenbosch, but it is a mid-level role that expects solid experience. You will need to show that you can do more than just build dashboards. When you apply, highlight examples where you used data to influence business decisions or change client behaviour. Emphasise your SQL and Power BI skills, and if you have worked in banking or financial services, make that clear. The team values people who can challenge stakeholders and mentor others, so mention any experience you have in those areas. Also be ready to talk about how you handle ambiguous questions and messy data. Since the role is based in Stellenbosch, make sure your application reflects that you are able to work there. A clear criminal and credit record is required, so be prepared for those checks. Good luck!
