Overview

Katope ITM is hiring experienced Code 14 drivers with a valid PDP for cross-border routes into Eswatini, Zimbabwe and Malawi. This full-time role offers long-distance driving work with overnight trips and the chance to join a transport team moving goods across Southern Africa.

About the role

Katope ITM is looking for three reliable Code 14 drivers with a valid Professional Driving Permit to join their transport operations. You will drive heavy-duty vehicles on local and cross-border routes, delivering goods safely to destinations in South Africa and neighbouring countries including Eswatini, Zimbabwe and Malawi.

This role suits drivers who are comfortable with long-distance travel, overnight stays and working according to trip requirements. Day to day you will conduct vehicle inspections, keep load and trip documentation in order, follow road and safety regulations, and communicate with the logistics team about delays or incidents.

You will also handle border-crossing, customs and immigration procedures, secure loads throughout the journey and deal professionally with customers and border officials. Preference goes to drivers who already have practical experience on these cross-border routes.

Important notes: This is a permanent, full-time position with three posts available. Meal and overnight allowances may apply depending on trips and company policy. You must be medically fit for long-distance driving and have a clear criminal record, subject to verification.

Requirements

  • Valid Code 14 or EC driver's licence
  • Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP)
  • Proven experience as a Code 14 or heavy-duty truck driver
  • Previous cross-border driving experience is essential
  • Experience travelling between South Africa and Eswatini, Zimbabwe or Malawi is highly advantageous
  • Good knowledge of road safety and heavy vehicle regulations
  • Good understanding of vehicle inspections and basic vehicle safety
  • Ability to complete and maintain trip and delivery documentation
  • Clear criminal record, subject to verification
  • Medically fit for long-distance driving duties
  • Good communication skills
  • Reliable, responsible and safety conscious

Responsibilities

  • Operate Code 14 heavy-duty vehicles safely on local and cross-border routes
  • Transport and deliver goods efficiently to designated destinations
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
  • Maintain the vehicle, load and required documentation
  • Comply with road traffic regulations and company safety procedures
  • Complete trip sheets, delivery notes and related documentation
  • Communicate with the transport and logistics team about delays, incidents or route issues
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, breakdowns or incidents immediately
  • Secure and protect loads throughout the journey
  • Follow border-crossing, customs and immigration procedures
  • Deal professionally with customers, border officials and other stakeholders
  • Spend nights away from home when trip requirements demand it

Success Guide

This job is for drivers who already have cross-border experience, so your application needs to show that clearly. When you apply, list the specific routes you have driven, the countries you have entered and the types of loads you have handled. Mention your Code 14 licence and PDP up front, and note your experience with border paperwork and customs procedures.

Also show that you are reliable and safety conscious. A short note about your driving record and your willingness to spend nights away from home will help. If you have references from previous transport companies, have those ready. Before an interview, think about how you handle delays at borders and how you keep trip documentation organised. This role asks for someone comfortable with long trips, so show that you are flexible and level headed on the road.
