About the role
As a Clinical Nurse in the ICU at Netcare Sunward Park Hospital, you will be responsible for assessing, planning, and implementing individualised, holistic, person centred nursing care for patients and their families. You will coordinate care within a multidisciplinary health team, act as a patient advocate, and ensure communication between nursing management and the unit.
Your day to day work will involve serving as a clinical resource, initiating emergency treatment when needed, doing rounds with physicians, developing nursing care plans, and evaluating patient needs. You will also participate in quality and risk management, help with policy development, mentor nursing staff and students, and contribute to resource allocation and your own professional development.

Requirements
- Registered as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC)
- Thorough knowledge of general and specialised nursing theory and practice
- Extensive knowledge of modern nursing care principles and practices
- Experience in ICU or critical care nursing
- Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate advanced nursing care
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team

Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and document individualised nursing care for patients in the ICU
- Serve as a clinical resource for personnel in the unit
- Act as a patient advocate and communicate with families and health professionals
- Initiate and direct emergency treatment (RESUS) as required
- Interview patients and families to gather background information and identify problems
- Participate in multidisciplinary team evaluations and care planning
- Do rounds with physicians to review patient conditions and develop care plans
- Prepare shift documentation reflecting patient status and unit needs
- Provide input into patient care policies and procedures
- Ensure a safe, clean, and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors
- Monitor safe use of supplies and equipment within budget
- Allocate staff to promote optimal patient care
- Mentor and support nursing staff and students
- Participate in in-service training and orientation of new staff
- Implement medical technologies and electronic patient records (CareOn)
