Overview
Dis-Chem is looking for a Casual Merchandiser to join their Glen Acres store in Kempton Park. This part time role is perfect for a Grade 12 graduate with up to 6 months retail experience who wants to get a foot in the door with South Africa's leading health and wellness retailer. You will keep shelves stocked and looking good while helping customers find what they need.
About the role
As a Casual Merchandiser at Dis-Chem's Glen Acres store, you will play a key role in making sure the store looks its best and that customers can always find what they are looking for. This is a temporary, part time position that gives you hands on retail experience with a well known South African brand.
What you will be doing:
- Restocking shelves and making sure the full range of products is always available
- Rotating stock regularly using the FIFO method and checking for expired or damaged items
- Building and maintaining attractive merchandising displays
- Helping customers with friendly advice and resolving their stock queries
- Assisting with stock counts, stocktaking and general store upkeep
- Keeping the shop floor neat, labelled and priced correctly

Requirements
- Grade 12 or Matric certificate (essential)
- Up to 6 months of retail experience (essential)
- Computer literate in MS Office
- Willing and able to work retail hours
- Strong command of the English language
- Presentable and professional
- Trustworthy and honest
- Good time management skills
- Physically fit and able to lift and move heavy boxes
- Reliable transport or live close to the store
- South African citizen with clear credit and criminal records
- At least 1 year retail experience (advantageous)
- Bilingual (advantageous)
- Knowledge of merchandising standards and FMCG industry (advantageous)
Responsibilities
- Restock merchandise to ensure maximum sales and that shelves are always full
- Store and pack delivered stock in the correct space timeously
- Check that stock on shelves has not reached its sell by date
- Rotate stock regularly on a FIFO basis
- Report low stock, out of stock items, damaged stock and expired stock to management
- Assist with stock counts and general stocktaking
- Follow Dis-Chem's operating standards, store layout and planograms
- Flatten boxes after unpacking and take them to the designated area
- Ensure shelves and products are neatly presented with correct labels and pricing
- Report price discrepancies to management
- Build, face up and maintain merchandising displays
- Maintain daily physical upkeep of the store and merchandise displays
- Assist with loading and off loading of stock
- Mark items without barcodes clearly
- Assist with back shopping
- Help train new staff members
- Provide friendly, helpful and courteous assistance to all customers
- Follow up on out of stock customer queries using the customer service out of stock list
- Wear the correct uniform and badge at all times
- Handle all merchandise carefully to minimise losses
- Adhere to Dis-Chem policies, procedures, SOPs and health and safety rules
