Dis-Chem is hiring an experienced Casual Cashier for their Midlands Mall store in Pietermaritzburg. About the role
As a Casual Cashier at Dis-Chem's Midlands Mall store, you will be the first point of contact for customers at the till. Your main job is to process payments accurately and efficiently while keeping the customer experience friendly and professional.
What you will do:
- Process cash, card, voucher and coupon payments using the Dis-Chem operating system
- Handle loyalty cards and partner reward programmes
- Keep your till secure and follow cash handling procedures
- Help customers with queries and exchange or return merchandise when authorised
- Report any suspicious behaviour or customer complaints to your supervisor

Requirements
- Grade 12 or Matric certificate
- Minimum 6 months experience in cashier or till operations
- Computer literate in MS Office
- Strong numerical skills
- Good command of the English language
- Basic customer service skills
- Willing and able to work retail hours
- Reliable transport or live close to the store
- South African citizen with clear credit and criminal records
Responsibilities
- Adhere to Dis-Chem customer service policies and procedures
- Build professional relationships with customers
- Report customer complaints and compliments to the Frontline Supervisor or store management
- Meet the customer turnover hourly rate
- Stay aware of current sales and promotions
- Ensure colleagues and customers are not exposed to risk
- Manage cash flow and place cash in the drop safe according to SOPs
- Ensure all line voids and price changes are approved and signed off by a supervisor
- Process exchanges and returns when authorised
- Transact all purchases including cash, bank cards, vouchers, coupons and other payment methods
- Process all loyalty cards including accelerator partners like Discovery Health Care, Medihelp Lifestage, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards and eBucks
- Keep your code and password safe and change it regularly
- Scan and confirm payment for all outgoing stock, items and scripts
- Keep all money safely and securely inside the till
- Handle daily takings confidentially and only discuss with management
- Recognise and report suspicious behaviour to management
- Address queries regarding store merchandise
- Follow Dis-Chem security policies and procedures
