About the role
As a Cashier at Dis-Chem, you will be the final point of contact for customers, making sure every transaction is accurate and every interaction is pleasant. You will work at the point of sale, handling cash, cards, vouchers and loyalty cards while keeping your till secure and balanced.
What you will be doing:
- Process customer payments accurately and efficiently on the Dis-Chem system
- Handle cash, bank cards, vouchers and coupons according to company procedures
- Process loyalty cards and partner rewards programmes
- Address customer queries about merchandise and report complaints or compliments to supervisors
- Keep your till safe and secure, and follow all cash handling policies
- Stay alert and report any suspicious behaviour to management
- Make sure all items are scanned and paid for before leaving the store
- Work retail hours as required by the store schedule

Requirements
- Grade 12 or Matric certificate
- At least 6 months of experience as a cashier or in till operations
- Computer literate, especially in MS Office
- Strong numerical skills
- Good command of the English language (written and spoken)
- Basic customer service skills
- Willing and able to work retail hours
- Reliable transport or live close to the store
- South African citizen with clear credit and criminal records
- Presentable, trustworthy and honest
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Problem solving skills and emotional intelligence
- Time management skills
- A third additional language would be an advantage
Responsibilities
- Adhere to Dis-Chem customer service policies and procedures
- Build professional relationships with customers
- Report customer complaints and compliments to the Frontline Supervisor or store management
- Meet the customer turnover hourly rate
- Stay aware of current sales and promotions
- Ensure colleagues and customers are not exposed to any risk
- Carry out Dis-Chem 5 star communication principles
- Be responsible for cash flow
- Ensure all line voids and price changes are approved and signed off by the supervisor
- Exchange merchandise and accept returned goods when authorised
- Transact all purchases, receiving and processing all accepted payment methods
- Process all loyalty cards including accelerator partners
- Place cash in the drop safe according to Dis-Chem SOPs
- Keep your code and password safe and changed regularly
- Ensure all outgoing stock, items and scripts are scanned and paid for
- Keep all money safely and securely inside the till
- Handle daily takings confidentially and discuss only with management
- Recognise and report suspicious behaviour to management
- Address queries regarding store merchandise
- Follow Dis-Chem security policies and procedures
