Overview
Dis-Chem in Ballito is looking for experienced Cashiers to join their team on a fixed term basis. You will be the friendly face at the till, handling cash, card and voucher payments while making sure every customer leaves with a smile. If you have Matric, at least 6 months of till experience and love working with people, this part time retail role is a great way to get your foot in the door with a leading health and wellness retailer.
About the role
As a Cashier at Dis-Chem's Ballito Lifestyle store, you will be at the heart of the customer experience. Your main job is to process transactions quickly and accurately while keeping a friendly, professional attitude at all times.
What you will be doing:
- Ring up purchases and take payments via cash, cards, vouchers and coupons
- Process loyalty cards and partner rewards programmes
- Handle exchanges and authorised returns
- Keep your till safe and balance it correctly
- Report any suspicious behaviour or customer complaints to your supervisor
- Stay clued up on current promotions and sales

Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate
- At least 6 months of experience working as a cashier or in till operations
- Computer literate, especially MS Office
- Strong numerical skills
- Good command of the English language, both written and spoken
- Basic customer service skills
- Willing and able to work retail hours
- Reliable transport or live close to the store
- South African citizen with clear credit and criminal records
- Third language is advantageous
- Presentable, honest, accurate and detail oriented
- Strong time management and problem solving skills
Responsibilities
- Provide excellent customer service at the point of sale
- Process all payments accurately, including cash, bank cards, vouchers and coupons
- Handle loyalty card transactions for Dis-Chem and partner programmes
- Exchange merchandise and accept returns when authorised by a supervisor
- Ensure all line voids and price changes are approved and signed off
- Place cash in the drop safe according to Dis-Chem procedures
- Keep your till secure and never share your password
- Report customer complaints and compliments to the Frontline Supervisor or store management
- Stay aware of current sales and promotions to assist customers
- Report any suspicious behaviour to management
- Scan and process all outgoing stock or items
- Handle daily takings confidentially and only discuss them with management
- Follow Dis-Chem's security policies and procedures at all times
