About the role
As a Blockman at Pick n Pay Wonderpark, you will be hands on with all aspects of butchery production and customer service. The role involves operating butchery equipment including the bandsaw, preparing and breaking carcasses, deboning cuts, and manufacturing mince, sausage and boerewors according to Pick n Pay standards.
You will also be responsible for controlling stock, merchandising products, monitoring cold chain temperatures, preventing wastage, and keeping the butchery equipment clean and hygienic at all times. You will assist with receiving meat from suppliers and may help train staff on new product lines.
Customer service is key in this role, so you will need to handle customers in a courteous and businesslike manner while providing the products and services they need. The job requires physical stamina as you will be lifting carcasses and containers of meat in cold conditions.
Please note: All applicants will be required to successfully complete numeracy screening assessments. You must also comply with the medical criteria required by the OHS Act for the Butchery. This skill of cutting, manufacturing and producing various meat products e.g loin chops, roast etc will be tested during the application process.Requirements
- Matric (Grade 12) certificate
- Must reside close to the Wonderpark store in Gauteng

Responsibilities
- Operate all butchery equipment including the bandsaw
- Report any defective equipment or utensils to the Butchery Manager
- Control, merchandise and promote stock according to laid down procedures and standards
- Prepare and break various meat carcasses according to laid down specifications
- De bone all cuts of meat
- Manufacture mince and produce sausage and boerewors
- Prevent wastage, shrinkage and damages
- Check temperatures and monitor and maintain the cold chain
- Provide the required product or services and handle customers in a courteous and businesslike manner
- Maintain a high level of cleanliness and hygiene of butchery related equipment and utensils
- Assist with the receiving of meat from suppliers
- Assist with training staff on various new products and lines
