Overview

FNB is looking for an ALM Risk Analyst to own and deliver change initiatives across the ALM Risk function, with a focus on Broader Africa and foreign entities. You will translate regulatory and business requirements into sustainable processes, reporting solutions, and system outcomes. This is a great opportunity for someone with 3 to 5 years of banking or risk experience who enjoys project delivery, process improvement, and stakeholder coordination.

About the role

As an ALM Risk Analyst on FNB's projects team, you will take ownership of assigned change initiatives across the ALM Risk function, with a strong focus on Broader Africa and foreign entities. Your main aim will be to improve the scalability, repeatability, and resilience of ALM risk processes by reducing manual work and key person dependency, strengthening controls and documentation, standardizing reporting, and building team capability through cross-skilling.

What the role involves:

  • Owning ALM risk projects from scoping through to implementation and business as usual transition.
  • Interpreting regulatory requirements across South Africa and Broader Africa jurisdictions and translating them into business and functional requirements.
  • Documenting current and target state processes, performing impact assessments, and developing requirements for technology solutions.
  • Coordinating solution design with risk, treasury reporting, technology, and in-country teams.
  • Planning and executing user acceptance testing and validating results.
  • Identifying opportunities to simplify, standardize, and automate ALM and regulatory reporting.
  • Building effective relationships with stakeholders across the business and supporting knowledge transfer.

Application note: Applications will not be accepted on the closing date or after, so please submit your application ahead of the closing date indicated. Apply on FirstRand's official site using the link provided.

Requirements

  • Three to five years of relevant experience in banking, financial risk, regulatory reporting, business analysis, or project delivery.
  • Working knowledge of bank balance sheets, ALM risk, and Basel based regulatory requirements.
  • Experience translating business or regulatory requirements into processes, functional requirements, or reporting solutions.
  • Experience in project coordination or delivery, including managing milestones, dependencies, risks, and stakeholders.
  • Experience in process mapping, business process analysis, testing, and implementation.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work across risk, finance, reporting, technology, and business teams.
  • Experience with SQL, Python, Power BI, Power Query, or similar data and automation tools.
  • Postgraduate degree or an Honours degree in Finance, Risk Management, a Commerce discipline, or Auditing.
  • Advantageous: experience in liquidity risk, interest rate risk in the banking book, regulatory reporting, Treasury Risk, BA returns, LCR, NSFR, change management, consulting, advisory or auditing, supporting financial risk model implementation, and working across multiple jurisdictions.

Responsibilities

  • Own assigned ALM risk projects from initial scoping through implementation and transition into business as usual.
  • Define project objectives, scope, deliverables, milestones, dependencies, risks, and measures of success.
  • Develop and maintain implementation plans and proactively monitor delivery progress.
  • Identify project overlaps and dependencies and coordinate these across workstreams.
  • Escalate delivery risks and initiate corrective action.
  • Maintain project governance, including status reporting, issue logs, decision records, and implementation evidence.
  • Interpret new and amended regulatory requirements across South Africa and relevant Broader Africa jurisdictions.
  • Assess the effect of regulatory change on ALM risk measurement, reporting processes, systems, data, and controls.
  • Translate regulatory and risk management requirements into clear business and functional requirements.
  • Document current and target state processes and perform business process impact assessments.
  • Develop business requirements for technology enabled solutions and coordinate solution design with stakeholders.
  • Plan and execute user acceptance testing and validate the completeness and reasonableness of results.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and automate ALM and regulatory reporting processes.
  • Develop exception based monitoring and reporting approaches and support the development of dashboards and decision useful risk information.
  • Build effective working relationships across ALM Risk, Treasury Risk Reporting, ALMA, technology, business units, and in-country risk teams.
  • Produce operating procedures, process maps, control documentation, training material, and user guidance for implemented solutions.
  • Facilitate formal training and practical knowledge transfer sessions across jurisdictions and teams.
  • Design processes that can be maintained by more than one appropriately trained team member and support cross-skilling and succession coverage.

Success Guide

Applying for a specialist role like this at FNB means you need to show more than just a list of duties. Your CV and cover letter should clearly highlight your experience with ALM risk, Basel requirements, and any project work you have led or contributed to. Mention specific tools you have used, like SQL, Python, or Power BI, because the role values data and automation skills. If you have worked on regulatory reporting such as BA returns, LCR, or NSFR, make that prominent. In an interview, expect questions about how you have translated regulatory changes into practical processes and how you manage stakeholders across different teams. Be ready to give examples of process improvements you have driven. Also remember to submit your application well before the closing date, as late applications are not accepted.
