Hello Hired is looking for an experienced Accountant to join an established agricultural operation in Middelburg, Mpumalanga. You will take charge of reconciliations, management accounts, budgeting and costing for a dynamic livestock and crop farming business. About the role
As the Accountant, you will be the financial backbone of a busy agricultural operation, ensuring that the numbers behind crop and livestock production stay accurate and meaningful. You will work closely with management and the operations team to keep costs in check, budgets on track and financial reporting reliable.
What the role involves:
- Completing weekly reconciliations for feed, medicine, workshop, chemicals, seed and diesel, and finalising month end processes.
- Preparing WIP and capital reconciliations, accruals and profit control reconciliations, and moving items to the income statement.
- Submitting SARS diesel refund claims while monitoring diesel usage and vehicle stock.
- Comparing budgets with management accounts, ensuring costs are correctly allocated and providing feedback to management.
- Reviewing crop, feedlot and administration budgets, and preparing the annual one year plan with monthly KPI comparisons.
- Running ROI, cost over gains, contract total and break even analyses on calf weights and slaughter results.
- Preparing cost per kilometre and unit cost calculations for trucks, equipment and by products.
- Reviewing purchase requisitions and quotations against the OPEX budget, approving invoice analyses and monitoring medicine stock levels.
- Leading stock takes with the operations team, following up on asset purchases and sales, arranging insurance and attending daily operations meetings.

Requirements
- BCom Accounting degree or equivalent from a recognised institution.
- At least 3 years of accounting experience, including reconciliations, month end and management accounts.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Working knowledge of Sage Pastel.
- Valid driver's license.
Responsibilities

- Prepare cost per kilometre and unit cost calculations for trucks, equipment and by products.
- Review purchase requisitions and quotations against the OPEX budget.
- Approve invoice analyses and ensure pens are invoiced to the correct client.
- Calculate minimum and maximum medicine stock levels.
- Lead stock takes with the operations team.
- Follow up on purchases and sales of vehicles, implements and equipment, and arrange demonstrations.
- Arrange insurance and supporting documentation.
- Attend the daily operations meeting and compile weekend duty rosters.
