Success Guide
If you are applying for this role, make sure your CV clearly shows your experience in academic staff development, not just general higher education work. They want at least three years specifically in that area, so highlight any programmes you have run, workshops you have facilitated, or teaching portfolios you have helped develop.
In your cover letter, mention the Council on Higher Education frameworks and how you have applied them. If you have a PhD, even if it is in progress, shout about it because it is a strong advantage.
The interview will likely probe your project management skills and how you handle academic staff who are resistant to change. Prepare examples of how you have improved teaching or assessment practices. Also be ready to talk about the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning because it is a big part of this job.
Remember this is an EE/AA position, so if you are from a designated group, make sure your application reflects that if you are comfortable doing so. Good luck, this is a great opportunity to shape teaching at a South African university.
